Large Format Paintings

Travelling and painting is always a joy and a challenge. Car trips are easiest and pretty well the whole out door painting kit can be taken. The smalls made on site capture an immediacy that challenges one to go large in the studio. The smalls are immediate little jewels and do not require too much information. Going large is a challenge because the design often has to be modified and the data required is immense. Your memory is challenged to say the least. Photos do have a role, but the colour is not represented nor are the correct values. I tend to bracket the photos to attempt to get the values and colours. Better than nothing, but the small done on site is by far the best reference.
